At Haiti Innovation, we frequently discuss issues relating to health, community mobilization, and development. From time to time, we also like to focus on a particular province to illustrate that positive changes that are being made. In this way, when people ask you if there is hope for Haiti, we hope you will reply with a resounding yes.
The Haitian Education and Leadership Program (HELP) will be holding a Haitian Art Auction on Friday, November 9th. The location will be the Prince George Ballroom at 15 East 27th St (between fifth and Madison).
On Monday, the UN Security Council renewed the mandate of the U.N. peacekeeping force in Haiti for another year. This is welcome as the UN has been previously guilty of leaving a job half done which swiftly unravelled upon their departure.

Port au Prince became the problem city of Haiti during the reign of the Duvaliers – each of whom centralized power and authority in the Capital, disempowering secondary cities such as Cap Haitian and Jacmel.

After the Presidential election of February 7th 2006 Haiti has fallen off the media’s radar. Equally as important as the Presidential elections are the Parliamentary elections, the runoffs of which are set to take place this Friday April 21st. The positive aspect of this decline in media attention is the fortunate decrease in kidnappings that once held the Haitian population at bay.
