Digicel Celebrates Third Anniversary With 2.1 Million Customers

According to Marketwire, Digicel is celebrating the third anniversary of its launch in Haiti with a customer base of 2.1 million.  Digicel's initial investment of US$260 million is the singled largest (legal) investment ever made in Haiti.  Digicel is proof that foreign investment can be accountable, profitable, and benefit society.  We hope it is a model others will follow.

Vaccination Campaign Targets One Million Children and Women

According to Jonathan Katz, public health workers plan to vaccinate some 1 million women and children this week around Haiti's capital after delays exacerbated by food riots and hurricanes.  The effort marks the second phase of an international goal to immunize 5.6 million Haitian children - more than half the country's population - against diseases like polio, measles and rubella.

Art is the medium through which some first come to know Haiti, and for others, to know Haiti better.  Haitian art is too expansive to be confined to shops and galleries – it is found on public transport, on the walls, in churches and Vodoun peristyles alike.  Art is Haiti's only inexhaustible resource.  When others use the tired phrase "Haiti - the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere", let us counter that Haiti is the culturally richest country in the Western Hemisphere instead.
