Global Alliance for Clean Cookstoves Partners with Haitian Chef Ron Duprat

The Global Alliance for Clean Cookstoves announced today that Haitian Chef Ron Duprat will be joining its team of distinguished members of the Chef Corps. Led by internationally-renowned Chef and Alliance Ambassador Jose Andres, the Chef Corps includes culinary advocates from around the world working to raise awareness of the dangers of cooking on open fires and traditional cookstoves, which is one of the world's most pressing health and environmental problems. “Growing up in Haiti’s Mare Rouge, I know the effects clean cookstoves and fuels can have on family health firsthand,” Chef Duprat said. “I’m honored to join the Alliance and other members of the Chef Corps to ensure cooking no longer kills.” 

 

Chef Duprat, a former competitor on the Bravo series “Top Chef,” is executive chef of the Montauk Yacht Club in New York and is also a culinary ambassador for the U.S. Department of State.  Duprat will join Chef Corps members including chefs Pati Jinich (Mexico), Susan Kamau (Kenya), Sanjeev Kapoor (India), and Luu Meng (Cambodia) who use their culinary expertise and professional background to raise awareness about the harmful environmental and health impacts of traditional cooking techniques in their native countries. “I am pleased to welcome Ron as our newest member to the Alliance Chef Corps,” said Radha Muthiah, CEO of the Global Alliance for Clean Cookstoves. “His experiences in Haiti and commitment to sustainable cooking make him an ideal representative. We look forward to working with him to expand our reach to new parts of the world.” Ron was born in Haiti and has a long list of culinary accomplishments. With over 20 years of cooking experience, he has opened several successful restaurants, published a cookbook, and earned Certified Executive Chef status with the American Culinary Federation in 2004. Duprat has maintained a strong advocacy for his home country and is working on its ‘sustainable food future’ movement.  “I am proud to use my voice to help bring attention to the issue of clean cooking. Household air pollution impacts so many lives and together our efforts can help advance the health of so many worldwide,” added Duprat.
