HII Annual Board Meeting

By Bryan Schaaf on Mardi, septembre 26, 2006.

boardThis Saturday, Haiti Innovation will convene its second annual board meeting.  During this meeting, we will be discussing future directions for the organization.  Thus far, your feedback has been invaluable.  When we first began, we anticipated that fundraising would be our primary raison d'etre while blogging would be an interesting, but secondary, activity.

What we have heard from the Haiti Innovation Community is that HII Blogging provides a unique, balanced perspective on Haiti and Haitian issues not easily found elsewhere.  We have also received many requests for information and advice on traveling to, investing in, and making a difference in Haiti.  We have been honored to be of assistance.

Board members are flying to DC from Haiti and from Ohio to participate.  Our web designer will also be in attendance.  We anticipate a very productive day. And you can be a part of it as well.  If you have thoughts on what we are doing well, where we need to improve, and how YOU envision the evolution of Haiti Innovation, please do send us your comments and suggestions.  A full report will be produced after the meeting.

Without you, Haiti Innovation would not be a community.  It would only be a website.

Together, we will build a better Haiti.

Bryan

plateau centrale - artisans

Bryan, let's talk via e-mail at least until 15 Nov. 06 when I'm supposed to return to S.C. till early January 07. We are making a huge effort to make Sant Art ak Kouti profitable, still using donated goods and some 20 women and 2 men with varying abilities. At present, our payroll runs to more or less $24,000. per year, and we've been making only around $6000., subsidized by Partners in Health. I don't want this to continue. We are exploring not just textiles and sewing, but also weaving, banana bark, pottery, wrought iron, painting, etc. Going is slow but still going.I'm actively seeking a committed partner stateside to do marketing and to guide us into what products are the most saleable. Right now we're trying to build up products that have done well in the past in order to begin a web site. The Route National #3 is indeed better from PaP to Mirebalais. I understand the kidnapping sitiuation will have to stop before any foreign company takes on the road to Hinche and on to Cap Haitian.Mwen rete kenbe! Jackie Williams

Great to Hear From You

Jackie, Its great to hear from you again. Ive not been to the Central Plateau for a year now. I hear the road has been much improved. Would like to hear more about how you are doing and how your activities are progressing at Cange. I still have a couple of great pieces around the house that I bought from the Center. I think people would love to hear more about what is happening in Cange. Please feel free to post a web log (blog) about your experiences working in Cange over the years. Or we could do an interview either over email (while you are there) or by phone (when you get back) and we can post it for our readers. Its really nice to hear from you! Please give my best to everyone. Kenbe! Bryan

I'm in Cange till 15 Nov. 06.Jackie Williams
